The idea for Susie B’s Gluten-Free baked goods came from my personal dietary restrictions and from my family that loved to be my test market. In 2003, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease (an allergy to wheat products) and quickly learned that even a trace of wheat in food would turn into flu-like symptoms that lasted up to two weeks for me. After experiencing being “glutened” over the years by even the smallest trace of a wheat product, my kitchen became 100% gluten-free (GF).
Starting in 2003 with the absence of tasty GF desserts on the shelves, my quest became to create delicious, GF desserts, especially that my twin boys—now 26, so no longer boys!—and their friends would enjoy! Over countless family gatherings, my family members (both gluten and non-gluten) became the best critics and helped me tweak recipes to the perfect taste.
Fast-forward to 2020: my niece decided it was time for me to share my desserts with others, so she helped me create Susie B’s. Love her! Now, we are thrilled to share our family’s favorite desserts with you!
Even more exciting, my mother, at the age of 79, decided to start her own company and be a first-time entrepreneur with me. You can check out her amazing children's subscription book boxes on the Tales & Treasures website.
